Teacher PD
Collegial support for Treaty Education in Living Sky School Division is valued as we learn from one another, share resources and work collectively on events and activities.
Moving Forward is our professional development focus in 2016/17. Our goal is to:
...provide a strong foundation & delivery of Treaty Education for all, with access to resources and opportunities for shared learning.
- PD materials are available at Living Sky Curriculum Connections.
- Division Wide PD on Sept. 26th 2016 featuring Dr. Linda Goulet and Keith Goule, presenting from their new book called Teaching Each Other: Nehinuw Concepts & Pedagogies. The afternoon will be devoted to grade and subject alike groups to examine at the Treaty Outcomes Support Document and to make plans for the year. We hope some exciting collaborations may arise from the chance to work together as we learn from one another.
- Join our Twitter Feed to celebrate and share they work we do in Treaty Education.
#LskyTreatyEd.
- Treaty Education Teams in each school will offer support to staff and assist with PD at staff meetings.
- Consider becoming a Treaty Catalyst teacher, 4 days of training through Living Sky School Division or the Office of the Treaty Commissioner or other types of related PD. Workshops are offered each year.
- Include agenda items for your staff meetings each month for teachers and possibly support staff. Share some great resources, watch a short video or have a discussion on Myths and Misconceptions about Treaty. Some people have joined 1,000 Conversations as a way to hold meaningful discussions. Support material will be coming your way each month from LSKY (examples in the chart below).
- Consider ways to make learning exciting in your school - consider a celebration event; bring in a speaker or elder; attend a Powwow with students; start a Cree Language Club or Jigging club, sign up for LIVE Arts, etc. Remeber to check out the Living Histories directory and request form if you are looking for support.
